Dr. Rachel Lum Ho, a pediatrician, talked about how TrueCare sees providing support and a cohesive team culture as key to preventing burnout.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“It helps me feel a lot less burnt out because I feel like I don’t have all of that pressure just on me, as an individual, to try to solve all these really complicated problems. For example, imagine I have this really depressed teenager, and they really need therapy. In some practice settings, you can\u2019t really predict the outcome. You won\u2019t know if or when they\u2019re going to have therapy. It might be nine months from now, and I don\u2019t know if they\u2019re going to follow up. But what if they can\u2019t afford to wait nine months? Here, I can do a warm handoff to one of our integrated behavioral health therapists and know they\u2019re going to be assessed that day and have a safety plan in place. It doesn\u2019t feel like the health and welfare of patients is resting solely on your shoulders; we all carry it together,” said Dr. Lum Ho.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Joanna Kingdon,<\/span><\/a> also a pediatrician, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the ease of collaboration and saying it reduces the pressure and stress that come with the job.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEvery medical assistant, every nurse, and every panel coordinator, they\u2019re all really open and warm. They\u2019re open to any question I have, and I had a lot of questions in the beginning. I can ask anyone any question and it’s never an inconvenience to that person. Same with providers, if I just want to pick their brain about something, everyone\u2019s really kind and open. Of course, they know they can ask me a question, too, so we all collaborate and see each other\u2019s patients every so often. It helps us reduce the pressure while providing better care because we get different perspectives and insights,\u201d said Dr. Kingdon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Alice Ma, a dentist, shared that the team is actually her favorite part of the job.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Honestly, my favorite thing about working here has to be the camaraderie. I come in, and I\u2019m excited to see my coworkers because they\u2019re people that I laugh with. We\u2019re a really tight-knit group. Everyone remembers what we talked about and what we were gonna do that weekend, and it\u2019s just like coming in and being surrounded by friends that you just really, really like spending time with. So it doesn\u2019t really even feel like work sometimes because we\u2019re always cutting up and joking, and we\u2019re always joking with the patients, too. They seem to enjoy it. It really livens up the mood for patients, which is really important in a place where you have to be vulnerable and build trust,” smiled Dr. Ma.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always thought that health care was a right and not a privilege, and it feels good to help people get the quality of care they deserve,\u201d smiled Dr. Kingdon.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, there\u2019s a fantastic staff here, and the most incredible thing about it is that we\u2019re all like-minded in the sense that we\u2019re all here to help others and be of service to others. So we have the same goal and work toward it together. We\u2019re all here to take care of people. It\u2019s really refreshing when you come in, and your whole team feels the same way that you do. And the patients are grateful, too, even over the smallest things. They\u2019re just so happy to be here and grateful for the services and the opportunity to actually chat with a dentist. It makes it super rewarding,\u201d added Dr. Ma.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHaving a good work-life balance shouldn\u2019t be a benefit: it should just be the status quo. It\u2019s the only way people can continue in this field for decades, so I\u2019m always teasing and having fun at work, because if you\u2019re not joyful, you shouldn\u2019t be at work. Especially when dealing with kids. Kids know if you\u2019re in a good mood,\u201d said Dr. Sebiane.<\/span><\/p>\n

She also appreciates the flexibility that allows team members to live in various locations and still have an easy commute.<\/span><\/p>\n
