With over three years of experience at TrueCare, Jeremy has played a key role behind the scenes in using data to drive better healthcare outcomes. Meet the TrueCare Team<\/span>: <\/span>Jeremy Lutz<\/span>, Director of Enterprise Analytics<\/span><\/h2>\n

We would like to introduce you to <\/span>Jeremy Lutz<\/span>, Director of Enterprise Analytics at our nonprofit organization. He has been with TrueCare for over three years \u2013 his workiversary is on January 24th, to be exact! Read his experience in his own words to give you a window into what it\u2019s like working at a mission-driven health center.<\/span><\/p>\n

What Do You Do with TrueCare<\/span>?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Jeremy<\/span>\u00a0may not work directly with patients, but he plays a pivotal role in their health as the Director of Enterprise Analytics. He is at the helm of a seven-person team, including himself, that includes some analytics developers and a data analyst.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m the Director of Enterprise Analytics, which means we do all the data management and reporting,\u201d said Jeremy. \u201cWe serve pretty much every business area in the company, including providers and senior leadership. We do a lot of population health management, so we have our fingers in many different areas. Basically, if anybody needs data for anything, it\u2019s our job to supply it in an easy-to-use manner,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Did You Join TrueCare?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Jeremy\u00a0came to TrueCare to do something meaningful.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been in technology for a while, either as a database administrator or web developer or analytics developer, and one day, I just kind of woke up and found myself working for a defense contractor just through a series of acquisitions of the company I was at and kind of said, \u2018What am I doing here?\u2019\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While Jeremy doesn\u2019t have anything against defense contractors, he didn\u2019t know if that was what he truly wanted to be doing. Like everyone else on the TrueCare team, what brought him to our nonprofit organization was the pursuit of some greater purpose.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI had to do some soul-searching,\u201d Jeremy said. \u201cI had to ask, \u2018Is this really what I want to be doing?\u2019 After some thinking, I decided I wanted to use my powers for good, so I thought health care would be a good thing to get into. So I went back to school, got my Master\u2019s Degree in Medical Informatics, and then started looking for jobs related to my field in health care. That\u2019s kind of how I ended up at Community Health Group,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeremy\u00a0would end up staying with this organization for nearly six years, and then he was ready for the next challenge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAfter getting my feet wet, I was interested in working on the provider side of things,\u201d Jeremy said. \u201cI started looking for jobs in that area, and TrueCare had a position that fit my skill set. And here I am,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What Are the Biggest Challenges or Opportunities in Using Data to Address Health Care in Communities or Populations that Need Extra Care?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Jeremy\u00a0may work behind the scenes to help our patients, but his impact on their health is immeasurable. He\u2019s deeply passionate about using data to improve lives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cData can be really helpful in optimizing health care, but it does present unique challenges,\u201d Jeremy said. \u201cIf you have adequate data, you can get a complete picture of their health and the services they need. But if we don\u2019t have enough data, it can be difficult to get a holistic picture of their health and what they need. One challenge we face is that we can sometimes have limited visibility into data. Also, if somebody has a hospital stay, sometimes the data comes to us in a fax, and we have to hand enter it, which can be tedious \u2013 especially in 2025. I think another challenge is just the differing regulatory agencies. Still, overcoming these challenges while changing lives is incredibly fulfilling,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How Do Analytics and Community Intersect, and How Do These Passions Converge for You?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Jeremy\u00a0understands that he is in a unique position at TrueCare \u2013 he works behind the scenes to deliver frontline results for our patients and team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWorking in analytics, we don\u2019t have any face time with the patients, which nobody really wants. That would be bad for everybody,\u201d Jeremy joked. \u201cWe\u2019re not providers, so we\u2019re the most connected to the patients through our efforts to help our quality department. At the end of the day, we make sure patients get the services they need, which requires a lot of data. We do a lot of support for their group. We put together dashboards of all these quality measures to identify where we need to improve, and over time, we improve the quality of care for patients. That\u2019s great for everybody, and it\u2019s really satisfying playing even a small role in identifying and addressing areas of need,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ultimately, Jeremy sees his role at our organization as helping our providers do their jobs better, which benefits everybody.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How Does TrueCare Differentiate Itself?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Still, Jeremy believes that the biggest differentiator for TrueCare is the commitment to the employees, which results in better outcomes for patients.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCompared to other places I\u2019ve worked, I think that the commitment to employees makes TrueCare special,\u201d Jeremy said. \u201cI don\u2019t want to bash anybody, but at TrueCare, they really talk about a commitment to their employees and a work-life balance more than any place I\u2019ve been. I think many companies say that and don\u2019t really mean it, and I think TrueCare does mean it. From everything I\u2019ve seen, I think they put their money where their mouth is in terms of taking care of their employees,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeremy\u00a0said that the team and <\/span>culture of collaboration<\/span><\/a> also stand out.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think they definitely foster a collaborative work environment here,\u201d Jeremy said. \u201cThey believe in building great relationships, and I think everyone practices what they preach in terms of when there are mistakes, nobody gets blamed. Fingers aren\u2019t pointed. You just say, \u2018Hey, look, that\u2019s on me,\u2019 and we\u2019re going to clean that up and move on. Everybody takes ownership, and it\u2019s a really pleasant work environment. They don\u2019t expect anybody to work 80 hours a week. In fact, my boss gets mad if I work too much. It\u2019s a great workplace to learn and develop in, and there\u2019s no shortage of opportunities to learn and grow here because our team is small-ish and we have our fingers in everything,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What Drew You to Community Health as a Data Analytics Person?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Jeremy, admittedly, didn\u2019t know much about our nonprofit organization before he joined, but he was swayed by the interview process, saying it showcased our culture.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to know if it\u2019s a right fit until you work somewhere, and it can feel like a leap of faith anytime you start a new job,\u201d Jeremy said. \u201cBut what sold me on TrueCare was the <\/span>interview process<\/span><\/a>. They really highlighted the values, and I just had this feeling that this was the right fit for me because those values aligned with mine, and it was clear they were making a difference. You don\u2019t know until you get here, but it\u2019s really just a feeling in some ways,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He said that\u2019s specifically what they look for in potential new hires.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s something we look for when we bring someone on,\u201d he said. \u201cWe just hired someone and interviewed a few people, and the guy we ultimately went with was in health care. He wasn\u2019t at a nonprofit. He was with a large health care network. But he did some volunteer work on his own, so that, to me, signaled that he is probably someone who actually believes in our mission if he\u2019s giving up his own time to volunteer,\u201d he explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What Are You Passionate About Outside of Work?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Jeremy\u00a0believes that his personal passions lend to his professional work and passion, which revolve around his family. He believes his pursuit of these passions is a reflection of the work-life balance TrueCare emphasizes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have a six-year-old son, so he\u2019s playing all manner of sports, and I\u2019m usually helping out coaching one way or another. It\u2019s really important to me that I\u2019m involved,\u201d Jeremy said. \u201cI try to golf when I can, but that\u2019s more and more challenging as my son plays more and more sports. Still, it\u2019s a really important part of my work-life balance, and the team at our health center really encourages that kind of thing. I also like to cook, and I used to be a runner. I\u2019ve ran a couple marathons, but that was a long time ago. I bike more than I run these days,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeremy\u00a0also loves spending time with his wife and making memories as a family.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy wife and I used to consider ourselves \u2018foodies,\u2019 though it\u2019s harder to have dinner by ourselves. Any parent knows that things change once you have a kid,\u201d Jeremy explained. \u201cBut I still like to cook, and my wife and I definitely like to travel. It\u2019s really fun to travel with our son, too. He\u2019s old enough that he\u2019ll hopefully remember some of these trips. I know we have been on a lot of trips he probably doesn\u2019t remember, but my wife and I really try to help him make some memories,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ultimately, Jeremy says that because the work-life balance is good and he feels fulfilled when he\u2019s on the clock, it helps him enjoy his time off even more, making these activities even more meaningful.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s Something Most People Wouldn\u2019t Know About the Work Being Done Behind the Scenes?<\/span><\/h3>\n

When it comes to the work Jeremy and his team do, he says that most people understand the importance of the work they do, but they don\u2019t understand how much they do.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think most people realize the importance of what we do,\u201d said Jeremy. \u201cWhat a lot of people probably don\u2019t realize is the amount of work that goes into collecting and managing data so we can build the things they need. Everybody sees the report and the dashboard as a finished product, but they don\u2019t see the process of putting that together, which is probably more complicated than people think. I think people think, \u2018It\u2019s a report \u2013 how hard can that be?\u2019 But a lot of times, we\u2019re pulling data from external data sources from different systems within the company, so I think there\u2019s a lot more work that goes into it that people don\u2019t see,\u201d Jeremy explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Jeremy is nothing if not understanding, realizing that, while essential, data analytics might not be the most exciting work in the world to some.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you work in our field, you have to have some self-awareness,\u201d joked Jeremy. \u201cWe\u2019re under no delusions. This kind of work is probably boring as hell to most people, and they don\u2019t want to see it. And that\u2019s fine \u2013 you learn to make peace with that very early. It doesn\u2019t make it any less important, and what matters is it\u2019s exciting for <\/span>us<\/span><\/i>, which makes every day exciting at this job,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How Do You and Your Team Feel When You Have that End Product and Are Handing Off Something that is Making a Difference?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Jeremy\u00a0says that the sign that he and his team are doing good is when the response from the team is, \u2018<\/span>Give me more<\/span><\/i>.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s basically our measuring point for whether or not we did our job,\u201d said Jeremy. \u201cSometimes, it feels like the work is never over, but that\u2019s a good thing when you love what you do, truly believe in the work you\u2019re doing, and genuinely like who you\u2019re working with. Sometimes, somebody will say they need something, and you deliver it, and it\u2019ll be pretty cut and dry. But once in a while, you get some feedback that is like, \u2018Hey, this is awesome,\u2019 and that usually comes with requests to add 10 things to what you just did. So that\u2019s when we know we did a good job \u2013 when they ask you to continue building on what you just built. It\u2019s just like when our fabulous providers are doing a good job. The patients keep coming back for more, and the providers love it,\u201d he explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
