How Does Employee Recognition Work at TrueCare?

TrueCare celebrates the hard work of its team through formal recognition programs. Beyond the daily appreciation, the organization presents specific awards to honor those who exemplify our core values, ensuring that dedication does not go unnoticed.

“My most recent personal milestone was Employee of the Year. I’ve actually gotten it twice since being a TrueCare. I got a certificate and a little plaque, and my team all told me that they voted for me and how happy they were for me,” smiled Josie.

However, recognition at TrueCare goes deeper than a simple trophy on a shelf. The process is designed so that colleagues also share heartfelt testimonials about why a specific team member inspires them, making the honor truly emotional and significant.

“When you get the award, everyone will write a little paragraph about why they voted for you, and I’m such a soppy person that they always make me teary-eyed,” joked Josie.

The true power of these moments, Josie revealed, comes from the shared joy of the people you work with every day. It reinforces the tight-knit bonds that make coming to work feel like spending time with friends who root for your success.

“I think it’s great the company acknowledges you, but it’s especially meaningful coming from the team because it’s more personal,” added Josie.

How Do You Know that TrueCare is the Right Workplace for You?

For many, the surest sign of a healthy workplace is retention. Josie Vargas points to the tenure within her department, where colleagues have dedicated decades to the mission, creating a stable, welcoming energy that feels less like an office and more like a family.

“What has confirmed for me that I’m where I want to be is my longevity with TrueCare. I’m going on eight years this year. And it’s not just me. In my own department, we have members who have been here for ten or even twenty years. Most of the department has been here for over five years, actually. I love that because it does feel like family. As soon as you walk through the doors, you feel that energy,” reflected Josie.

Being part of that long-term journey allows team members to play an active role in the organization’s evolution. When you contribute to that expansion and see positive changes unfold over time, you develop a deep sense of ownership and pride in the collective success.

“TrueCare has been through a lot of growth, and I feel like when you experience that growth with the company, you get invested. It becomes like your baby, and you just enjoy being with the company and watching it grow,” said Josie.

What is Rewarding About Patient Care with TrueCare?

Serving the community as a referral coordinator brings unique challenges, but the outcome makes every effort worthwhile.

Guiding patients through complex health scares and helping them find the right resources transforms anxiety into relief, providing a profound sense of purpose for the support team.

“As a referral coordinator working with our community, it can be challenging, but it is really rewarding. We have patients who come in for what they think is a simple issue that turns into something bigger, and we always get the feedback that we really helped them navigate that stressful situation with confidence – they’re always really grateful,” said Josie.

The gratitude expressed by the people we serve is immediate and infectious. Knowing that your assistance provided peace of mind to a neighbor in need creates simple, joyful moments that fuel the passion for community health care.

“How can you not smile when someone’s saying thank you?” beamed Josie.

What is Special About TrueCare’s Personal Approach?

TrueCare distinguishes itself from massive medical systems by prioritizing holistic, relationship-based care. The team takes the time to recognize familiar faces and honor specific requests, ensuring that patients feel known and valued rather than processed through a system.

“What separates TrueCare from bigger organizations is that we’re more personal with our patients. We develop relationships with them because we see the names come up so commonly. Sometimes, the patients will even request to see specific providers,” said Josie.

This philosophy creates a safe space where patients feel comfortable reaching out for help. By offering direct lines of communication and personal follow-through, team members like Josie ensure that every individual feels like a cherished member of the TrueCare family, elevating the standard of quality care.

“I’ve given patients my direct line, and they’ll call me and follow up on things, and I always make sure to help them out. They’re very grateful; they love it. With bigger organizations, I don’t feel that you can do that because everyone’s just a number. But here, they’re part of the TrueCare family,” added Josie.

Career advancement and employee recognition are central to the culture at TrueCare.

The organization fosters a transparent and nurturing environment for those looking to advance their education and roles. Ashley’s path shows that hard work is not only noticed but actively rewarded and celebrated.

“I’ve actually gone through various milestones. I started off as a medical assistant. There was a year when I was Employee of the Year. Each one of those times I was celebrated and knew that I was appreciated here,” smiled Ashley.

What is the Power of Understanding with TrueCare’s Diverse Patients?

TrueCare’s dedication to health equity means providing care that meets people where they are and speaks their language. For patients, being able to communicate with a nurse or provider in their native tongue breaks down barriers and builds trust.

Ashley Perez, as a bilingual provider, shared how her ability to speak Spanish plays a vital role in ensuring this inclusive environment is maintained daily.

“I feel like I fit in at TrueCare because I know that most of our patients come from different backgrounds and ethnicities. While they do speak a lot of different languages, most of our population is Spanish-speaking,” explained Ashley.

This ability to connect instantly transforms the patient experience, shifting it from one of potential anxiety to comfort and confidence. This direct, positive feedback is one of the most rewarding parts of working in a Mission-Driven environment like TrueCare.

“When they see a nurse who speaks their language and can communicate in their language, they feel very happy and comfortable – it puts them at ease. You can see the change in their smile when someone understands them and knows what they’re saying,” beamed Ashley.

What Does it Mean to Treat Patients Like Family at TrueCare?

TrueCare champions a “whole-person care” approach, which goes beyond physical health to include compassion for our communities. Ashley applies this philosophy by treating every person she encounters with the warmth and respect she would give her own loved ones.

This practice aligns perfectly with TrueCare’s core commitment to compassionate care.

“All of the patients who come in, I treat them like family. I treat them all like they’re my mom, my dad, my grandma, my grandpa, or a sibling,” reflected Ashley.

This compassionate approach is crucial because patients often arrive during vulnerable or stressful moments. A warm, understanding demeanor can significantly influence their emotional state and willingness to engage with their health care.

“I think that’s what makes TrueCare so special. You don’t know what the patient is going through when they walk through those doors. They could be going through a vulnerable time, and when you treat them with care, respect, and compassion, they are very thankful. They change their mindset and the way they talk to you. At the end of the visit, usually you’ll see the change and the smile on their face,” smiled Ashley.

How Does TueCare Find Solutions to Help the Community?

At TrueCare, our team members are encouraged to speak up about the needs they see in the communities we serve. Open, transparent communication means that when staff identify a problem, the entire organization mobilizes to find compassionate and immediate solutions.

“I think one thing that has been impactful for Perris that we saw a need for is that staff kept saying that there was a lot of food insecurity right now in our community,” recalled Daisy.

The immediate feedback and collaboration between clinic staff and other TrueCare teams quickly led to concrete action. This process demonstrates how TrueCare empowers its support team to be changemakers, not just employees.

“From that feedback, we actually got together with Community Engagement and created our first in-clinic pantry, so now we have a pantry available to patients so they can get immediate relief while they connect with different resources,” explained Daisy.

Taking direct action to support communities that are too often underserved is what makes working for TrueCare so fulfilling. Knowing that your daily efforts contribute to immediate relief and long-term solutions offers unparalleled professional satisfaction.

“I think all of that brings a lot of meaning. It’s really fulfilling to take all of the feedback that I hear from patients, staff, providers, and try to find different ways to offer solutions to the community,” smiled Daisy.

How Does TrueCare Empower You to Have a Positive Impact in the Community?

The daily impact Daisy sees at the health center confirms she is in the right place, driving her motivation to continue leading her team. These small, frequent moments of gratitude from both patients and staff reinforce TrueCare’s core value of being community-oriented.

“Just seeing the impact I’m making every day at the clinic is incredible, whether it’s staff coming in and letting me know they gave food bags to a patient and how grateful the patient was, or just sharing the stories of how patients are thankful for certain services or the education and resources provided that they never had before,” said Daisy.

These impactful moments serve as a powerful daily reminder of TrueCare’s Mission-Driven purpose and the collective commitment to health equity. It’s this connection to purpose that transforms a job into a career you are proud of.

“It’s those little moments that really encourage me and remind me every day that I’m in the right spot,” said Daisy with pride.

What Does it Mean for TrueCare to Make Patients Feel Welcome?

TrueCare’s commitment to providing a welcoming, high-quality experience is immediately visible to patients the moment they enter one of our health centers.

Attention to detail in the physical environment signals TrueCare is dedicated to providing compassionate care and deep respect for every person who walks through the door.

“We’ve gotten so many comments from our patients that our building is so beautiful and that they’ve never had a facility that accepted their insurance look like this. That’s something we take a lot of pride in at the Perris location,” said Daisy.

Ensuring the facility reflects the high standard of care provided is a key component of TrueCare’s approach to health equity and patient dignity. For Daisy, this small effort creates a massive impact on the patient experience.

“I look around every day to make sure everything looks good. If things are not painted or they need a touch-up, tickets are made. Something like that is really impactful for our patients, and they feel proud coming to our facilities, and we share that pride,” added Daisy.

Does TrueCare Invest in Its Facilities?

For medical professionals like yourself, having access to cutting-edge tools and a clean, modern workspace is essential for job satisfaction and quality of care.

Daisy notes that TrueCare is consistently ahead of the game by ensuring its health centers are equipped with the latest technology.

“Something that I do notice that TrueCare is really ahead of the game in is the investment in their buildings and facilities,” reflected Daisy.

This significant investment in facilities and equipment directly translates into a superior patient experience, reinforcing the feeling that patients are getting the best possible care. For team members, this means they have the resources they need to excel in their roles.

“This goes a long way in terms of making it a great experience for the patient because they feel like they are in a great building and getting the best possible care. They’ve noticed that we have state-of-the-art equipment that they’ve never even seen,” beamed Daisy.

The level of equipment TrueCare provides often exceeds what is available even in some private practices, an observation that makes a strong statement about the nonprofit organization’s commitment to its team and patients.

This is particularly true in specialty fields like dentistry.

“I’ve also gotten feedback from dentists like, ‘Wow, you guys have these dental chairs that you don’t even see in some private offices.’ Things like that let me know that TrueCare is serious about investing in the equipment and facilities,” recalled Daisy.

Are you looking for a fulfilling career on a support team where your organizational skills and dedication directly impact patient care? Do you want a workplace where you can grow professionally while being a vital piece of a mission-driven organization? Meet Marisol Baltazar, or “Mari” for short, the Lead Medical Receptionist (MR) at our Mission Mesa Pediatrics health center. Marisol’s 25-year career with our organization demonstrates how vital the support team is to maintaining the high standard of care for which we are known and what it means to find a professional home where your work truly matters.

Learn how Marisol found purpose in her support team role at TrueCare Mission Mesa, focusing on our culture of growth, integrity, and teamwork.

Marisol Baltazar on Finding Purpose in Health Care Support Jobs at TrueCare

Marisol’s commitment to TrueCare is rooted in her desire to launch a career in health care administration and contribute to a nonprofit organization that prioritizes the community.

Her role ensures that the entire clinic runs smoothly, enabling providers to deliver prompt, compassionate care. If you are looking for a transparent and nurturing workplace environment that empowers our team to grow in their roles within the organization, Marisol’s experience showcases the impact of a dedicated support team member.

Why Did You Join TrueCare?

Marisol reflected on what it was that drew her to the organization initially.

“When I found out TrueCare was hiring, I came and did an internship. I had gone to school to become an MA. I was hired right after my internship as an MA and pediatric referral connector. Then, I had different roles throughout these 25 years,” recalled Marisol.

Throughout her career, Marisol said she has worked in both pediatrics and with adults.

What is it Like Working as an MR at TrueCare?

Marisol’s dedication to accurate and accessible patient data is critical to our mission. As the Lead MR, she is the engine that keeps information flowing seamlessly, directly impacting patient and provider efficiency.

“My job is crucial for the whole team because I’m the first person that the patients come in contact with when they’re checking in, and I’m verifying their insurance or taking copayments. I ensure all patient records are accurate, secure, and accessible to our providers and nurses so they can deliver timely care. I’m basically the person who keeps the information flowing smoothly between the patient, the front desk, and the medical team. It takes a lot of teamwork and attention to detail,” said Baltazar.

Marisol also touched on what, for her, is the most fulfilling part of being on the TrueCare support team – contributing to our mission of removing the traditional barriers to life-changing care that the community we serve often faces.

“The most rewarding part is knowing that even though I’m not hands-on with the patients, my work directly supports the compassionate care they receive. When a provider gets the right record instantly, and a patient gets the help they need, I feel like I made a huge difference. We serve our neighbors, and that feels good,” said Marisol.

She said that working at TrueCare Mission Mesa Pediatrics also means working in a great location.

“I really love this location because of the walks that we do. There are a lot of staff members who walk around here. There is a park close by, but also, when you’re walking down the main street, you’re able to see the palm trees, and sometimes you can even get an ocean view,” smiled Marisol.

Marisol said that, in addition to the stunning location, she also enjoys seeing the difference she makes in the community members.

“Every time I see or come in contact with a patient outside of work, they always come and greet me, and that brings me great joy because they’re able to come and stop and say hi. That means that I have touched somebody and made a difference, and there’s really no better feeling than that – no matter what field you work in. Really, just seeing patients getting better brings me immense joy,” said Marisol.

Have You Felt Supported in Your Career Growth at TrueCare?

Marisol’s 25-year journey is a perfect example of the professional growth opportunities at TrueCare. Starting as a Medical Records Clerk and progressing to a leadership role, she has been continuously supported in her professional development.

“I was hired as an MA, and then I moved to being a referral creator and the program resource specialist. From there, when this office opened up the new location, I transferred and became the lead medical receptionist. I started as a basic Medical Records Clerk, and they recognized my attention to detail and commitment. I was promoted to Lead MR five years ago. TrueCare offers constant opportunities for training and development,” said Marisol.

This involvement in daily team communication aligns with TrueCare’s value of transparency and constant communication between management and direct reports through one-to-ones and regular huddles.

“I love that TrueCare always gives the opportunity to those who may not have all the experience they need. We are willing to train anybody as long as they’re teachable, passionate, and willing to learn,” said Marisol.

What is Your Favorite Part of the TrueCare Team Culture?

At TrueCare, the support team is encouraged to bring their complete and authentic selves to work. Marisol notes that this inclusivity fosters a strong sense of belonging that makes the long-term commitment so rewarding.

“I really enjoy working with the people here. It’s incredible. As cliché as it sounds, they have truly become like family; they’re far more than just coworkers or even friends to me. We’ve been there for each other through thick and thin and all kinds of difficult situations. Everyone here has touched my heart in one way or another,” beamed Baltazar.

When asked about her favorite component of our team culture, she was quick to answer.

“My favorite part of the culture is the sense of belonging. We are a diverse team, and everyone is accepted as they are. We share everything, from potlucks to celebrating birthdays. It’s a place where you can genuinely be yourself and feel connected to a larger mission,” said Baltazar.

Baltazar said that this culture starts at the top.

“It starts with leadership. We have this connection with each other because we connect with each other personally and professionally, and we help each other out. We’re there for each other, whether that means helping with a coworker, a family member, a friend, a patient, or whatever,” explained Baltazar.

Outside of TrueCare, Marisol reinforces her commitment to the community by volunteering at a local food bank.

“These kinds of activities reinforce my belief in community and compassion. It’s not just a job motto, it’s how I live. That’s really important if you want to work here. We’re so close because we all have a shared mission – we want to help each other. We have a passion to serve our community that drives that,” said Marisol.

Oscar Rodriguez’s story is an inspiring testament to what our non-profit organization’s mission is making possible – breaking cycles and providing the care and support communities deserve to thrive. Here’s how to get into the medical field in San Diego.

“The doors are open – you’re welcome to come in, and you can rest assured that you’ll be accepted. We love making friendships and building relationships with others. We take pride in that, and we always want to make a good environment for those who are onboarding. We want to support you in ways that will help you thrive. How Did You End Up at TrueCare?

Oscar revealed that he has unique and diverse professional experience, to say the least, and this experience has helped him succeed at TrueCare today, providing an excellent road map for potential applicants wondering how to get into the medical field in San Diego.

“I was working at a restaurant, and I saw an ad in the newspaper for a medical assistant training program. It was held by community health centers in our county. TrueCare, which was North County Health Services at the time, was part of it. I applied for that training program, and I was able to, you know, be part of the training program to get my certification as a California-certified medical assistant. That gave me the chance to work in the medical field, and I’m thankful for that because if I didn’t have that opportunity, I don’t know where I’d be today,” explained Oscar.

How Does TrueCare Encourage You to Be Yourself?

Oscar said that one of his favorite aspects of working at TrueCare is that he is allowed to bring his entire self to work in an accepting and welcoming environment. He said, ultimately, that what this means is that it helps you realize your potential.

“TrueCare helps me be myself in a few different ways. It brings out my positive side as far as serving the community and being there for those who need help with health care, and I always strive to give the best effort I can for patients. It kind of makes you realize what you’re capable of and inspires you to constantly improve,” reflected Oscar.

How Does TrueCare Support Professional Development and Growth?

Having been here for nearly 12 years, Oscar said that he has grown a lot personally and professionally since he started here.

“I’ve been at this location for about 12 years, and I’ve grown a lot since the beginning of my career here. I started at the call center as a call representative, which is now known as Maps, and I’m now a medical assistant supervisor here at this site. It’s nice to be able to grow here. Even starting from the bottom, there’s no ceiling on where you can go within the organization. That’s what it feels like once you’re on the team,” explained Oscar.

As for this trajectory, he said what continues to stand out the most for him about working at TrueCare is that it feels like the organization is truly invested in you and your growth.

“TrueCare has allowed me to grow tremendously. I’ve been able to grow my skills as far as leadership, and they’ve really molded me into a very strong individual who can serve the community and just be of service to every patient that walks through the door,” said Oscar.

Oscar said that because of his role as MA supervisor, he is also on the other side of professional development, nurturing growth in his own team.

“What excites me about my role is supporting an individual. Maybe someone’s a new medical assistant, right? Well, it can be a little intimidating at times. They’re figuring things out, from their workflow to their personality and their voice. It’s just really nice to help people develop and become confident and learn all the amazing technology that helps us with our work,” elaborated Oscar.

Oscar said that this is, ultimately, reflected in how he makes people feel welcome when they first start a medical assistant job, which could mean you!

“One thing I do to help people feel welcomed is being kind and being a nice person to them. I want people to feel like they’re coming to work in a good environment and like they’re supported. We want to make sure you’re supported in any way you feel you need to be supported, which is something that continues your entire career here,” smiled Oscar.

Oscar said the other component that he tries to emphasize is working as a team.

“One of the things we focus on a lot is building great relationships and being kind to one another. We only thrive when we work as a team, and only as a team are you able to serve the community in ways that you don’t even think are possible. We make it possible with teamwork and being a great team. Really laying that foundation early on is important because it gives everyone the chance to grow and accomplish their goals,” added Oscar.

What Do You Love About Working at TrueCare Encinitas?

When it comes to working at TrueCare Encinitas, Oscar said that being able to work in this specific community means more than words can express. He says the organization has been a staple of the Encinitas community where he grew up since he was a kid.

“I enjoy working at this location a lot. Obviously, we’re close to the beach and right on the coast, but I also have a deep connection with the area. I grew up here, and it’s nice to be able to give back to my community. There are people who struggle, and you don’t think about it, but it’s nice to be able to help those people in need. TrueCare has been a part of the community for a long time, and it may have a different name, but it’s maintained its identity and held onto the values of serving people who are in need,” reflected Oscar.

Oscar said that his personal connection to the community makes the work he’s able to do with TrueCare all the more meaningful.

“I just think of my childhood. You know, my family came here for services when they had their old location on 2nd Street. There’s a lot of history between TrueCare and this community, and plenty of people were impacted by the work TrueCare has done, like when I was a kid. We grew up in this area, and we didn’t have a lot, so I just feel that it’s nice to be able to give back to those people as well who don’t have a lot. People sometimes think this area doesn’t have people in need like that, but it does, and I know because I grew up like that. So it’s just nice to serve those people in a way that wasn’t always possible for me and my family growing up,” continued Oscar, getting emotional.

Oscar said that he knows first-hand that having a place where you can feel this comfortable can equate to life-changing health care experiences for his community.

“I feel like the Hispanic community thrives because of places like this. Sometimes I don’t feel like there are any places that they can go and feel comfortable, and we create that space for them to feel respected and safe and come to receive care, be treated, and receive fair, equal treatment,” said Oscar.

As for the location, Oscar says that the team is incomparable.

“We’ve made a community within our walls, and it’s really important to have those relationships. Sometimes, we go out to lunch and get pizza. There’s a pizza place we like to go together as a team to just eat lunch, disconnect from work, and talk with each other,” said Oscar.

The location itself, Oscar said, is also a highlight of working here.

“I love taking walks here in Encinitas. It’s a beautiful area, right on the coast. There’s a beautiful overlook of the ocean up top – it’s a viewpoint, right? And there are little trails where you can walk and see the waves crashing. It’s just a beautiful area to be in. Walking the coast, there are a lot of cafes and coffee shops, and you can always try something different if you’re looking. There’s a lot to offer, and it’s very unique,” said Oscar.

Is Your Family Proud of You and Your Career at TrueCare?

Oscar said he also feels that his family is proud of him for his career at TrueCare, which definitely helps add a little more meaning to the work.

“I definitely feel like my family is proud of me for being in the medical field. Just knowing that they feel their son is making a difference with other families and individuals with their health fills me with pride. And we should take pride in that – we should take a lot of pride in that. We do a lot for our communities, and we know sometimes that we don’t think about it that way, we’re making a difference. It’s incredible,” reflected Oscar.

How Does TrueCare Acknowledge Your Work and Accomplishments?

Oscar said another thing he loves about working at TrueCare is that they always acknowledge your personal and professional milestones.

“I’ve been here for a while, so I’ve seen all kinds of milestones, and I think that TrueCare always acknowledges your work and accomplishments. They always recognize your hard work. We have annual events where they recognize you for your longevity, your hard work, or just being a good medical assistant. It’s always nice to be recognized, and it really puts into perspective the kind of legacy we’re creating here when you see how many people are still working here after all these years. It makes you want to stick around and be here for the long run because it feels like being part of something special,” said Oscar.

What’s the Most Rewarding Part of Working at TrueCare?

Oscar said the most rewarding part of working at TrueCare is being able to help those in need, which he says is important to success here.

“The most rewarding part of my job is definitely helping those in need. Sometimes, I don’t realize that I’m doing a lot for somebody, and I think about it, and I’m like – oh, wow, I really helped this person out. It’s nice to know that you are able to help somebody who’s struggling with their health or financial situation. You usually don’t even realize it at the moment until you think about it or someone comes in thanking you. Those moments are what make the work mean so much for me,” smiled Oscar.

Learn more about how you can find your professional calling with medical receptionist jobs in San Diego with a community health center like TrueCare!

Melissa Rodriguez on Launching a Career with Medical Receptionist Jobs in San Diego

Melissa Rodriguez has worked with TrueCare for two years as a medical receptionist, and she said that she has been blown away by the opportunity provided by the organization. Specifically, she said it’s a great way to do meaningful work while building a fulfilling career.

“TrueCare makes it accessible to get into the health care industry and get your foot in the door – it’s really a great opportunity for all professionals looking to enter this field. It makes me super excited to be able to do just that as a medical receptionist while helping patients get the care they need. Here, you get to make a real difference in the community while building a fulfilling career in health care,” said Melissa with pride.

How Did You End Up Working at TrueCare?

Melissa said that working in the medical field is where her heart has always been, and she was interested in taking whatever opportunity was available to work in the industry.

“I wanted to do anything I could to get involved in the medical field, and I’ve just always wanted to help others. I guess you could say I’ve always had a passion for helping my community. That’s what led me to work here,” smiled Melissa.

Melissa said that what she loves about working at TrueCare is that everyone is valued, and everyone contributes to providing the quality of care the community deserves.

“Even just making an appointment for people or helping refill their medication is fulfilling because I know what that means for them and their health care journey,” smiled Melissa.

Melissa also said that working in the medical field runs in the family because her 18-year-old daughter wants to be a nurse.

“My daughter wants to be a nurse, and she inspires me, too, because of it. It makes me feel proud that my daughter actually wants to be in the same field, and it makes me feel like I’ve had something to do with her setting and reaching this goal of becoming a nurse,” said Melissa.

Still, Melissa said she has more goals she wants to accomplish at TrueCare, and leadership has been very supportive in helping her reach them.

“I want to be a medical assistant and be hands-on with the patients in the room and communicate more with them in that way, and I feel like I have a lot of support and encouragement here to make that possible. You can feel how invested they are in you from the moment you walk through the door,” said Melissa.

What Do You Like About Working at TrueCare Encinitas?

Melissa said that the surrounding area is a major perk and benefit of working at TrueCare Encinitas that she thinks all applicants should be aware of.

“I love working at the Encinitas location. It’s right down the street from the beach, and the community is really tight-knit. My patients know who I am, and I’ve been here for a while, so I’ve built some amazing relationships with these families. That’s really an important part of my role – I’m the first person they see when they start their health care journey or come in for an appointment. I set the tone that way,” smiled Melissa.

Ultimately, what Melissa said she likes the most about the TrueCare Encinitas location, however, is the community and her ability to help uplift them.

“I feel really connected to the community just by doing things like making appointments for them or answering their calls and questions. It makes me feel really good to give back to the community, and the organization really has strong and deep roots here now – it feels like we’re an important part of the local community, not just a provider,” reflected Melissa.

What Makes the TrueCare Encinitas Team Special or Unique?

When it comes to community, Melissa said that it’s also the internal TrueCare community that makes working at TrueCare Encinitas special.

“The team has all been here for a while, so we’re really close. We go for lunch and hang out after work, and just do a lot of things together. I like that we’re always texting each other back and forth, and it feels like one big family,” said Melissa.

As for who she would like to shout out for doing a great job and supporting her? Melissa did not hesitate to give some well-deserved kudos.

“I’d like to give Ellie a huge shout-out for being a sweet person! She’ll come to the front and just talk to me and get to know me. It helps me feel like I’m part of the team, and that kind of stuff brings everyone, from the front to the back, together,” said Melissa.

Melissa added that diversity, team-building, and celebration potlucks also make the location a special place to work.

“One thing I love about TrueCare is that you always feel like you can be yourself. For example, we do potlucks, and we can each bring whatever we want to cook to share with our team, and everyone’s always very welcoming and accepting. We really use food as a way to express ourselves and, no pun intended, bring our whole identities to the table. And everyone gets to eat good, too, because the food is all so delicious,” said Melissa.

What Was Your First Day Like at TrueCare?

Melissa said she remembers her first day on the job at TrueCare fondly, offering some seasoned advice for new team members experiencing the same first-day jitters.

“From what I remember, I was super nervous, but the team really made me feel welcome. It’s important to just show up, be yourself, and not try to be something you’re not. They’re all really great to work with, and they made me super excited when I started,” recalled Melissa.

When asked if she would recommend that someone work at TrueCare, she answered the question through the lens of giving her daughter advice as she enters the field.

What TrueCare Core Value Resonates the Most with You?

Melissa also took some time to consider the core values that are displayed all throughout the building and which aligns with her view of health care the most.

“I feel like even just smiling at patients and listening to their situation is so important – making them feel heard and just listening to why they’re coming to see us for health care and acknowledging them. It sounds simple, but just validating them is such a huge part of providing a positive health care experience. That’s where we start helping them. It’s about making them feel comfortable and feel that we actually care and want to help them get in, see a doctor, and start addressing whatever health issues they have,” said Melissa.

What Inspired You to Get into the Health Care Field?

Cinthia’s roots in health care run deep, and in many ways, it can be considered a family tradition for her!

“I saw my mom do some of this type of work while I was growing up, and it really inspired me.. She studied a bit of First Aid Nursing for a while, and would help around where she’s from in Mexico. She was really passionate about giving back to the little town she grew up in. I really liked the idea of helping people with bettering their health, and I have a special opportunity to do that here,” remembered Cinthia.

When thinking about what it was that inspired her, Cinthia shared her memories of watching her mom work and the impact she had.

“A lot of people would come to her to get help, and they were expecting to get help with medications, injections, that kind of thing. My mom was always there to treat people who had just been in the hospital but needed extra help. I saw that kind of selflessness growing up, and that is what inspired me,” said Cinthia.

What Was the Shift Like Going from Medical Assistant to Supervisor at TrueCare?

Cinthia reflected on being promoted to MA Supervisor, saying that it was a challenging but rewarding transition.

“I was an MA for about five to six years before I became a Medical Assistant supervisor, and I’m not going to lie to you – it was a difficult change because I love being on the floor and getting the patient experience. It was tough taking on more of an administrative role and not having that one-to-one time with patients, but little by little, I have adjusted and love my role as a supervisor with TrueCare,” said Cinthia.

Cinthia said that she appreciates that TrueCare listened to her about her desire to grow and was invested in her professional and personal development.

“The opportunity came when our manager at the time was leaving TrueCare, and we had already talked about me growing. I wanted to grow within the company, and she gave me a heads-up. She said an opportunity was going to come up, and I should take it. So, when she left, I became the interim manager for about six months while they hired a new manager. She pretty much just set me up for it; she trained me and gave me all the tips on how to do it. Once a supervisor position opened, I took it. I knew the ins and outs of the clinic by the time I took on that role, so I was ready. TrueCare’s great because they truly do look for growth opportunities and set you up for success,” said Cinthia.

She says that her considerable experience and knowledge of the culture at TrueCare were also an incredible asset during this transition, saying that being able to lay that foundation of experience is key to succeeding in more advanced roles.

“Being here nine years, I have a lot of insight into the culture within the Perris community, “and there are a lot of patients who need a lot of support to continue maintaining their health. We get a lot of frustrated patients coming in because they’re not feeling well, and they just need focused attention. We try to help them out with their medications, finding them a primary care provider, and understanding what the primary care provider does for them to keep them out of urgent care hospitals. A lot of the work I do with patients as a supervisor is a lot of communication with patients to just kind of help them through the world of learning who their primary care provider is and what they can do for them,” recalled Cinthia.

What Do You Find Rewarding About Your Job at TrueCare?

When it comes to what she finds rewarding about medical clinical assistant jobs with a nonprofit organization like TrueCare, Cinthia said that it’s two things: providing answers and supporting her team, which are the hallmarks of all great leaders.

“What I find very rewarding is two main things, and it starts with knowing that if a patient comes in upset with a complaint or frustrated with the process, because the road to good health can be long and frustrating, just being able to give them the answers they need and help them figure out how to feel better is super rewarding. It’s all about making them feel heard, and that is powerful in and of itself: giving patients agency on their health care journey. The second would definitely be being a supervisor who is always there to help my team. At the Perris location, we’re all about helping. We’re a family here. So, just knowing that my team can come to me and I will figure out a way for everyone to come out with whatever the problem is and find solutions is also really rewarding. It’s kind of two sides of the same coin,” explained Cinthia.

What’s Your Team Like at TrueCare?

When it comes to what’s special or unique about the team, Cinthia was quick to say that it’s a very tight-knit, united team.

“The Perris team is very close, so we’re pretty much like a family here. We’re all united in that way. Everybody here is a team player – it doesn’t matter what we’re doing, how busy we are, if somebody is not up to speed with things, or if they just need help, no matter how simple the question. You will always, and I mean always, find somebody here who will stop what they’re doing and help out. We care for one another. It’s unlike anywhere else I’ve ever worked in my life, and it’s part of what makes it so special,” elaborated Cinthia.

What Do You Like About TrueCare’s Perris Location?

Cinthia said what she appreciates most about the local area and community is that it is continuing to grow, which means TrueCare’s impact is growing along with it.

“What I like most about this location is that it’s growing a lot. Having been here nine years, I can tell you that a lot of the places around us weren’t here back then. We’ve grown so much – our services have grown out to include more than primary care doctors and have more specialties within the clinic. It’s growing so much, and a lot more people are getting to know TrueCare. It’s very centralized and very accessible to patients. It all leads to a bigger impact,” explained Cinthia.

How Does TrueCare Celebrate Its Employees?

When it comes to celebrating employees, Cinthia said that they don’t just wait for birthdays to acknowledge them for their contributions.

“One of the things we do here at TrueCare for employees or anybody who comes in is greet each other with Good Morning Smiles, and that’s just a really good way to start your day. It lets you know you’re in this together, and you are valued,” said Cinthia.

Still, that doesn’t mean that Cinthia and her team don’t go all out when it matters!

“We celebrate everybody’s birthday here. We decorate everybody’s desk area, and another way we celebrate each other is with potlucks. There’s always a lot of delicious food, and food brings all of us together. It’s one of the best things we do here at TrueCare as well,” said Cinthia.

Ultimately, however, Cinthia believes that TrueCare makes employees feel valued through regular recognition and acknowledgement.

What Makes a Good Medical Assistant at TrueCare?

For applicants like you, Cinthia also provided some excellent insights into what makes a good Medical Assistant at TrueCare.

“If you’re interested in working at TrueCare, know that it’s a great place to learn. That’s a really important quality – a growth mindset and a desire to constantly improve. Just being willing to learn and share your knowledge is important,” said Cinthia.

Cinthia said that being a team player is also important.

“Being patient and team-oriented is one of the most important qualities to have because it doesn’t matter who walks through the door, whether you’re a patient or not, we will try to assist you in whatever way we can. If that person at the front desk can help you, great. If not, maybe it’s the person in the back office. You just really need to be willing to support your teammates and be patient-focused. That’s kind of what our mission boils down to at the end of the day. And we’re all about our mission here. It’s what fuels the amazing work we’re able to do in these communities,” said Cinthia

Ultimately, Cinthia said that having the right attitude and personality is crucial to being a good Medical Assistant at our organization.

“I would tell anybody who’s trying to apply here to go for it – we’re a great team. If you’re up for having a good time and being willing to come into work with a smile every day, this is the right place to be,” Cinthia said.

Are There Medical Assistant Jobs that Provide Training in San Diego & Riverside?

As Cinthia mentioned, she enjoyed considerable on-the-job training as an interim manager that primed her for success in her current role as Medical Assistant, illustrating TrueCare’s commitment to development. But there are other opportunities to be aware of, too.

“We do a lot of hands-on training, and we see patients of all ages, so it’s a great area to learn all aspects of what it means to be a medical assistant, from working the back office Medical Assistant Administrative jobs to to working Medical Assistant Urgent Care jobs, or ‘Quick Care,’ as we call it, to Medical Assistant pediatric jobs. If you want to learn and gain that training on the job, you will have plenty of opportunities. If you want growth, there are absolutely opportunities to grow here at TrueCare,” reflected Cinthia

Cinthia said that you have the chance to apply everything you learn at TrueCare on the job. She also said that TrueCare provides ample opportunities for training and education.

“TrueCare helps employees who are not Medical Assistants get their Medical Assistant diploma, so that’s a huge help for someone who wants to become a Medical Assistant,” said Cinthia

Cinthia said TrueCare is dedicated to helping employees grow in their careers and find the career path that’s right for them and their passions. If you’re a Medical Assistant and want to branch out, Cinthia said that this is the place to do it.

“TrueCare is very good at seeing where you fit best on the team and helping you grow into new roles. I mean, look at me – I started as a Medical Assistant and was able to transition into a Medical Assistant Supervisor role. That path is a little more linear, but there are times where someone comes in and wants to be a Medical Assistant, for example, but they don’t have the Diploma yet, so we help them get qualified,” said Cinthia.

Cinthia said that what she appreciates most about working at TrueCare is that the organization is committed to opening the door to a fulfilling career.

“If you’re a go-getter with a growth mindset and a desire to learn, there are many avenues for advancement here, with leadership and mentors who are genuinely invested in your success. Why Did You Join TrueCare?

When it comes to why Judith joined the team, she said that when TrueCare came calling, she didn’t know her purpose was calling, too.

“The company reached out to me, actually, and once I had the interview, I noticed it was the place I wanted to be. I felt like I found my calling. They serve the community, and I wanted to make a difference. It’s been amazing to get involved and make a meaningful change in people’s lives,” remembered Judith.

Why Did You Enter Health Care as a Panel Coordinator?

Judith entered this field for the same reason that many people on our team did: she wanted to help people and advocate for them.

“I got into this line of work because I wanted to help others, and that means fighting for patients’ rights, making sure they get the help they need, making sure there’s somebody advocating for their health, and ensuring they have someone who will go above and beyond, because that’s what everyone deserves in health care, and there are people who have never experienced that level of care. I wanted to be the antidote to that,” said Judith.

She said that this position in particular provides her with the opportunity she’d been looking for, and when we reached out to her, the position itself was new.

“They were looking to create this amazing position where you help everybody across the board, and I was able to be this point person and resource for patients, and I was just really excited to be able to help patients in this way. It was the perfect position for me, and because it was new, I have kind of been like the pilot for this new position. It helps patients have somewhere to connect and close the loop,” recalled Judith.

When we asked what ‘closing the loop’ means for Judith in her role as Panel Coordinator, she had some excellent insights to share that highlight TrueCare’s supportive culture.

“Closing the loop and being a Panel Coordinator is really important to me on a personal level, and having passion is important to success here. What helps me excel in this position is just being a team player and being able to make others feel they can come to me for any issues or resources,” said Judith.

Ultimately, in her role, Judith says she sees herself as being a one-woman support system, which is on brand for her and her trademark selflessness and team-oriented approach.

“Being a support system for my patients and providers and being able to offer guidance is what I’ve discovered my passion is, and making sure the patients feel comfortable and cared for and are not just sent for is what I see my role as. I’m like an ambassador in some ways who makes sure they know we’re there for them,” said Judith.

Judith also said that, ultimately, what makes her job so rewarding is interacting with grateful patients who need an advocate in their corner and have never had one.

“There are a lot of rewarding moments and aspects that come with this job, but I think the most rewarding thing is just the feeling of somebody saying, Thank you. The patients really appreciate you and what you do for them, and especially for those families that have nobody to stand for them within health care or fight for them. That’s when you feel like you’re doing something that matters, and that’s what’s rewarding for me,” mused Judith.

Are Communication and Teamwork Important in TrueCare?

At the heart of her role as Panel Coordinator, Judith says communication and teamwork are incredibly important. But she says these are also important core values across the organization, which are key to having a successful career at TrueCare.

“Communication and teamwork are very important in TrueCare, but we also make sure that we’re able to connect with each other without feeling like we’re asking too much. We’re a great team. We know who can help us and how to go about getting help. You know, if you ever get stuck here, you have an amazing team that has your back,” said Judith.

Judith said that this communication and teamwork are some of her favorite aspects of working at TrueCare because they create a closer connection with her colleagues that transcends conventional work relationships.

“I love the people I work with, and that’s something really special about working at TrueCare. You truly end up loving the community you build in your work life. Obviously, you spend more time at work than anywhere else, so you want to enjoy it, and TrueCare feels like the best place to work. It doesn’t feel like work. I love my position, and I feel like I’m able to make people feel comfortable coming and asking me for help,” said Judith.

Judith says being able to go to a provider or another staff member and feel comfortable about the handoff process results in integrated, higher-quality care.

“As a Panel Coordinator, I would say that the way I can approach the providers from across the board, whether it’s dental or behavioral, and it’s really amazing to be able to approach providers and ask for help to get patients what they need, and it’s never a problem. Everyone loves helping because everyone has the mindset that the patient comes first, and building great relationships (BGR) is what we’re here for, so having that and feeling comfortable doing that makes a huge difference,” said Judith.

What Does Your Daily Routine Look Like at TrueCare?

To provide a glimpse into what a day in the life looks like for people at TrueCare, she provided an overview of what she does on a day-to-day basis.

“Some of my daily routine would be involving patients with referrals and helping them with insurance, answering any questions, calling specialists, or making appointments, and it’s really just about walking them through the process. We have to remember that patients do not know our medical field – they don’t know the wording,” said Judith.

“Medical language is not just complicated; it can be overwhelming and intimidating. It can deter people from getting crucial care. Sometimes, they might be elderly and don’t have anybody to help them. That’s where I step in and make sure we’re there to walk them through every little step of the process, from making the call to making the appointment to following up to making sure they keep it. What I really love about my job is just being there for people,” she beamed.

What Do You Like About Working in Community Health Care?

When it comes to what she loves about working in community health care, Judith said that it is that she’s able to educate others, which is life-saving in health care.

“Here, the community aspect I love has to be the way we educate people, and it really just comes down to dispelling taboos about health care because culture impacts a lot. Beliefs, religion, and that kind of thing. So we make sure our patients are educated about health care, getting their wellness checks. For women, it could be getting their pap, and for men, it could be colorectal,” said Judith.

Judith reflected on the role cultural understanding plays in community health care, too.

“All these things that might be taboo in some cultures, we want to make sure we reach out to the community, educate them, and let them know why this is important, so, for me, reaching out to the community, making sure they understand how important their health is and how they need to monitor and address it is unbelievably important,” said Judith.

Judith said that TrueCare does a lot to give back to the community, which goes a long way in making her role at the organization feel more meaningful.

“I actually did a run, which was initially done for signups during the winter. But by the time the run came around, it was 90 to 100-something degrees, but that didn’t deter anyone! We’re very involved in the community, and I love the many ways that TrueCare gives back,” smiled Judith.

What Makes the TrueCare Team Special?

When it comes to her team, Judith had nothing but exaltations to shower on them, noting that the supportive environment they create is unrivaled.

“Oh, man, the team I work with, these women, are all amazing, and as a single parent coming into a group where women support each other, it’s not just teamwork here at work, but we go beyond that. We work, we go into family, we talk about how our days are going on a personal level. We know when somebody’s feeling down, and we help lift each other up. So, the team I work with makes a whole lot of difference. I have to say, I’m very blessed to have the team I have,” effused Judith.

And if she had to pick a word to describe the TrueCare team? She had a touching answer.

“To choose one word to describe TrueCare feels impossible, but I would have to say it’s ‘family.’ It really does feel like an extended family here; it’s not just a cliche or a buzzword at TrueCare. You feel that when you’re here,” said Judith.

What Do You Love About TrueCare’s Perris, California, Location?

Like many members of our team, Judith is a local to the community she serves, which she said makes the work she does even more meaningful.

“You could say I’m technically local because I live in Mead Valley, so I love this community, this office, this organization, this team. But being local isn’t that important. I would commute whatever distance I needed to because the company is that great,” said Judith.

In line with her patient-first approach to all things health care, what she loves most about TrueCare’s location is that it caters to patients, followed by the community, both of which reflect our collective mission as an organization.

“I love the location we have right now because it’s accessible to our patients and easy to find, like if we say there’s a McDonald’s by us or that there’s a Chinese buffet here, they’ll know where we are located. This is all about the community, and people are able to make it here pretty easily, and if they can’t, we do offer transportation, which is amazing. So I think location and the way the community feels comfortable being here make a big difference. It feels like we’re part of something special,” explained Judith.

What Do You Love About Working at TrueCare?

When it comes to what she loves about working at TrueCare, Judith has plenty to list, saying that her experience with the organization has been nothing short of exceptional, especially as a single mother.

“One of the things I really value here is that they prioritize your well-being as a person and not just as an employee. I’m a single mom, so I can tell you that the amazing opportunities TrueCare provides for single parents are rare. Any single parent will attest to how hard it can be to find the right opportunity and work environment,” elaborated Judith.

She, ultimately, provided words of encouragement to applicants just like you.

“For anybody who’s trying to grow personally and professionally, there’s always support here at TrueCare. The people I work with have been there for me for every personal and professional step I’ve taken forward, and just having this support network is invaluable. We all lean on each other, and I’m excited for many more opportunities,” said Judith.

How Can You Support the Community in Health Care without Being a Provider?

Judith said that one of the aspects she has enjoyed about working at TrueCare has been that it provides opportunities to support the community through health care, even for people who haven’t gone to school to be a provider.

“Really, it doesn’t matter what walk of life you come from; there are opportunities at TrueCare to make a meaningful impact on your community every day,  and what matters most when you’re working here is your passion, values, and commitment to our shared mission. Even if you aren’t a doctor or nurse, there are opportunities,” said Judith.

Judith explained that there are several departments and roles that you could consider that don’t require treating patients directly, though your contribution will ultimately feed into the high-quality patient experience we strive to provide day in, day out.

“I’m a Panel Coordinator, so I don’t do any clinicals, but there’s outreach, enrollment within insurance, referrals, coordinating care, HR, department call center scheduling, and so many branches. It’s so much more than just scheduling appointments. That’s a common misconception. One of the best things about working here is that they’re willing to teach and give you the opportunity to learn new things. They don’t shy away from that and actually help and encourage you to move, so growth is a big part of working here,” said Judith.

As for where she says she sees herself within the company in the future, Judith sees the same thing we do in her potential – the crisp, blue Southern California sky’s the limit.

“I want to grow here, and I see myself growing with the company. I want to go as high as I can go. TrueCare has given me the opportunity to go back to school, and I’m going to get my associate’s degree, and one day, I want to manage one of the new clinics in Riverside. That’s one of the things I want people to know: you are completely supported here. Leadership is amazing, as are the managers, and there are great mentors who actually want you to express the growth you want. Whatever your professional and personal goals are, TrueCare is as dedicated to helping you reach them as you are,” said Judith.

What Does a Nurse Supervisor Do at TrueCare San Marcos Pediatrics?

Riofrir is a pivotal part of the San Marcos Pediatrics support team. Ask anyone in the San Marcos office, and they will attest to the fact that she is known for her multifaceted role and dedication to supporting her team.

“I’m a nurse supervisor, so I wear a lot of hats,” explained Riofrir. “I do a lot of nursing things for my clinicians. They will usually come and let me know what procedures need to be done, and it’s my job to ensure that they’re prepared and supported,” she said.

Beyond her nursing duties for clinicians, Riofrir supports Medical Assistants (MAs) with procedures and is deeply involved in patient education. As a supervisor, however, her primary focus is on her team, which is the mark of all great leaders.

“Ultimately, I see my job as looking at my team and seeing where I can best serve them and how I can help them succeed within their role,” reflected Riofrir. “That’s a huge part of the culture here – we all support each other. It’s a great feeling to know that your team always has your back,” she said.

How Does TrueCare Support Career Growth and Employee Value?

Riofrir’s journey with TrueCare began in January 2016 as a floor nurse when TrueCare had an entirely different name. She has enjoyed nine and a half years of dedicated service and counting, so she has blossomed professionally alongside the organization.

“When I first joined TrueCare, it was actually called North County Health Services, or NCHS, and I was the floor nurse,” said Riofrir. “I basically did everything nursing-related. I did a lot of procedures and would help assist clinicians however I could. I would also help with wound care and EKGs. I was able to use my telemetry experience to help out the team early on, too, and I would help with some mental health things. I still do that kind of work now, but I did it a lot more when I was just on the floor before I became a nurse supervisor,” she added.

Riofrir said that when she was offered her promotion, it was kismet.

She was ready for a change. The position became vacant, leadership listened to her needs, and the organization worked with her, highlighting the opportunities for growth and TrueCare’s commitment to nurturing professional development.

“I had been a floor nurse with the organization for three years, and I was ready for new challenges and opportunities,” recalled Riofrir. “I wanted to experience something new, and there were some staff changes that freed up the nurse manager position. That’s when the manager and I had a candid conversation about my career goals. It seemed like the right fit, so I applied and received the offer shortly after,” she smiled.

This, Riofrir said, is a great example of how TrueCare doesn’t let its team feel stagnant or like they have outgrown their positions. Instead, the team works closely together to ensure they are assigned roles that will enable them to reach their full potential.

“After being a floor nurse, I wanted to experience something new within my role or in another position,” explained Riofrir, “and then I got offered the position as the supervisor. Within this role, I have learned so much. I have learned how to guide people even further, and I have learned the value of patience. Not that I didn’t have it before, but you definitely have to keep your composure in this role. I’ve also learned to put others before myself, which is kind of the core of our entire mission as an organization, but it’s especially true in my role, where you have to learn to look at other people, see their potential, encourage and appreciate their growth, and identify how you can help them. I’m incredibly grateful to TrueCare for giving me this chance and helping me grow.”

How Does TrueCare Empower Employee Development?

Riofrir’s role as a supervisor extends to actively cultivating the potential within her team. She is passionate about fostering individual and professional development. She re-emphasized that TrueCare is built on fulfilled potential.

“Something that I focus on in my role is looking for potential and really empowering the other person to want to grow and develop skills,” said Riofrir. “I like to focus on little goals and take it one milestone at a time. That way, when they’re looking further out, they can look back and see their progress with more clarity. It’s all about making our team feel welcome and never letting them feel stagnant,” she reiterated.

She said that one way TrueCare really empowers this development is through one-on-ones.

“One thing that I focus on as a supervisor is my monthly one-on-ones with team members,” said Riofrir. “These are key to encouraging professional development. My role is all about empowering and encouraging other people’s growth, and one-on-ones are a great way to gain an understanding of what they want out of their role, what support they need, and how we can best support them. That’s why communication is so important – even personally, that’s how I was able to move up into this position. We value that a lot here,” she added.

What Is Teamwork Like at TrueCare San Marcos Pediatrics?

When it comes to the vibe of the San Marcos Pediatrics team, Riofrir says that it embodies a true sense of family, which results in better teamwork.

“The team here in San Marcos is very welcoming,” said Riofrir. “We’re like a family, and we’re always coming up with ideas for what we want to do to help motivate each other. We do a lot of potlucks and celebrate everyone’s birthdays. It’s really important to reinforce to the team that no one is in this alone and that people are always willing to help. When you feel like you’re stuck or like something is a bit more complex, there’s always somebody who will want to help you out. We believe in getting closer on a personal level to bring the best out of each other on a professional level,” she said.

How Does TrueCare Encourage Employees to Be Themselves?

Riofrir says that TrueCare is deeply committed to authenticity and inclusivity, encouraging employees to bring their whole selves to work. Riofrir highlighted this by mentioning the organization’s allowance of tattoos and piercings.

“I think TrueCare has really done an amazing job at cultivating inclusivity,” beamed Riofrir. “Before, we weren’t really allowed to have tattoos or piercings, but the organization realized that tattoos and piercings are just another form of self-expression, and adjusted to allow those parts of us to show up as well,” she said.

Riofrir proudly showed one of her tattoos, a meaningful portrait. By allowing their team to have tattoos, Riofrir believes they are allowing everyone to be more authentic.

“One of my tattoos that is really meaningful to me is this portrait on my arm,” said Riofrir, displaying the tattoo proudly. “It’s a portrait of my grandmother, who passed away. Even though she’s gone, I know she is always with me, so I got this portrait of her as a reminder. I like it a lot, and I get a lot of compliments on it,” she said.

When considering what personal expression means in a professional environment, Riofrir mused, “It really helps me be more me, and that’s important for enjoying where you work.”

What Inspires TrueCare Nurses’ Passion for Community Health Care?

While she may have started with our organization in 2016, her passion for nursing and community health started far before that.

“I became a nurse because my grandma, who is here on my arm, was very sick,” explained Riofrir, motioning to her tattoo. “She had a lot of chronic conditions, and I would always help her as a little girl. I would help her with injecting her insulin because she had diabetes, and I would help her with her daily glucose checks. So that really piqued my interest, and since then, I’ve always known that I wanted to be a nurse,” she said.

She said that she started working in the private sector at an adult daycare “literally across the street” from the San Marcos campus, and she decided to take a chance on TrueCare, which would be her introduction to mission-driven community health care.

“When I actually started working here, that’s when I started to learn about what a community clinic was, and it was amazing to see the work they do,” Riofrir said. “It was very different from other jobs I’d worked at in a great way. I feel like my grandmother would be proud. She was also a Spanish speaker. She didn’t speak any English even though she was native to the U.S. Those are the types of patients we serve here, so it feels like I’m giving people the quality of care my grandmother didn’t get,” she added.

Ultimately, she said that this is what inspires her and other nurses at TrueCare.

“I’m very proud of serving the community by working in a community health center because, even though we’re not as bougie and don’t have all the bells and whistles other clinics do, we have the heart, and we speak to the patients in their language,” said Riofrir. “That’s what really separates us from and elevates our care above the others – we really take the time to listen to our patients and connect with families. In pediatrics, for example, we really sit down and listen to the parents and what their needs are. By doing that and being able to speak their language, we make them feel very comfortable and create a welcoming environment, which is really important in health care. It’s a vulnerable space, even if it’s a regular check-up,” she said.

This is why she would recommend working in community health care and at TrueCare.

“I would tell a friend if they were interested in applying to TrueCare to just do it,” Riofrir smiled. “The community here is amazing, and we serve the underserved, so it is very rewarding to help patients and their families who might not have better care somewhere else. Plus, everyone here is so welcoming that you’re sure to make lifelong friends,” she said.

What Are the Benefits of Working at a TrueCare Location?

Beyond the compassionate care, Riofrir appreciates the convenience and collaborative spirit of her specific location. This, ultimately, elevates the quality of care we provide.

“One thing that I really love about working at this location specifically is that we have everything in this building,” Riofrir explained, “so even though I solely work for pediatrics, I have the opportunity to work with a lot of nurses, and you end up making a lot of friends. It’s also beneficial for families because they don’t have to go to a bunch of different places for different appointments. It’s all in one location. So, for example, if someone needs to take their kid to a few appointments and both parents work, it makes it a lot easier to take care of everything in one day and minimize the strain that puts on families.”

However, she says that the people she works with are some of the brightest highlights of working at the San Marcos location.

“One thing that’s really cool about working here is that you create genuine friendships,” said Riofrir, “and it makes you want to hang out outside of work with them and not only talk about work but just get to know each other on a personal level and become a family.”

How Does the TrueCare Team Handle High-Pressure Situations?

In a health care environment, challenges can arise, but Riofrir says that the TrueCare team handles them with exceptional unity and professionalism. Riofrir shared her pride in how the team responds to medical codes, which require immediate attention.

“Knowing that I can trust my team to get the proper materials that we may need for a code is amazing,” Riofrir said. “I don’t have to really think about who’s going to do what because someone always has a role, and they jump in immediately to help out,” she said.

This level of trust and seamless collaboration ensures that even in chaotic moments, the team operates effectively and safely, providing Riofrir with immense confidence in her colleagues.

How Did You Start as a Philanthropy Specialist at TrueCare?

For Dinh, philanthropy has been a lifelong passion, so working at a nonprofit organization like TrueCare felt natural for him.

“It’s a pretty long story when it comes to philanthropy for me,” said Dinh. “I like to say that I’ve been doing philanthropy my whole life in one way or another with my upbringing. I was active in groups like Rotary Club and Assistance League, so I’ve always been involved in the community. My parents also encouraged me to participate in Boy Scouts.. I’ve done a lot of community service work, and I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer for and run a lot of philanthropy and charity events,” he elaborated.

This passion that began in his childhood continued to play a pivotal role in his life, in college and beyond.

“I ran the philanthropy chair in my college fraternity, and before I even graduated from college, I saw the opportunity to work here at TrueCare,” explained Dinh. “I applied here because I was amazed – I didn’t know people got paid for doing philanthropy. It seemed like a dream come true. I’ve always done it for free and, of course, community service hours,” he joked.

For Dinh, working in this field at TrueCare has truly been an incredibly fulfilling experience, and he is grateful to the team at TrueCare for seeing his potential.

“It was honestly amazing that I was given this opportunity because, again, I didn’t really have my degree yet,” said Dinh. “But they saw the passion I had for philanthropy and my experience and community involvement throughout the years. That was enough for them to take a chance on me, and the rest is history. For people applying or preparing for an interview, passion is one of the most important qualities to showcase,” he smiled.

Dinh remains incredibly proud of his time at TrueCare, as he said that he has had so many great and memorable events and campaigns with the organization.

“All of our initiatives have been impactful and given me the opportunity to do what I’ve always wanted to do,” Dinh beamed. “It’s a dream career for me.”

What Is the Work Culture Like at TrueCare’s San Marcos Office?

For Dinh Bui, the work culture at TrueCare’s San Marcos office is special because it doesn’t feel like a job where people simply clock in and work – everyone is close.

“It feels like a family,” Dinh said. “I know it sounds cliché, but it’s true. It honestly feels like I have a bunch of new siblings with this team, and the great thing about that is that everyone here offers the same support you would offer your closest family members. If I ever need help, I can count on them, no matter what. Everyone looks out for one another, everyone makes sure everything is handled, and I do the same for them,” he said.

Dinh says that collaboration doesn’t feel complicated or forced, and because everyone shares the same mission, helping each other, especially with philanthropy events, is very easy. The shared dedication makes teamwork smooth and meaningful.

“At TrueCare, we talk a lot about community,” said Dinh. “Of course, we talk a lot about the community we are helping, but we also talk about the community we have internally. It’s all connected. The strong and connected internal community we have built helps us connect with the communities we have the privilege of helping on a deeper level because it elevates the care we provide,” he said.

How Does TrueCare Make an Impact Beyond Healthcare Services?

As a nonprofit, TrueCare extends its care far beyond traditional health care. Dinh highlights programs like backpack drives and holiday plushies that directly support families and children, addressing needs the clinic walls alone can’t contain.

“The real reward at these events is seeing the kids smile when they receive backpacks,” said Dinh. “Those smiles are real-life examples of our impact. They’re also a reminder that philanthropy is more than an event; it’s a chance to do more for the community. Ultimately, that’s what fuels everything we do,” he said.

TrueCare’s commitment to philanthropy means providing programs and supplies, and creating food distribution initiatives that many traditional clinics simply don’t offer. It’s a core part of the mission to support and uplift the community in meaningful ways.

How Does TrueCare Support Employee Growth and Development?

Dinh’s supervisors, Lance and Briana, play an essential role in cultivating his growth. They understand the challenges of a “very small team” and make sure his achievements and the department’s successes don’t go unnoticed. He says they empower him to grow.

“I feel like the experience and responsibilities I’ve gained through all of the achievements have led to a lot of leadership opportunities,” Dinh smiled. “These opportunities have been invaluable to my professional development,” he said.

TrueCare also encourages Dinh to think outside the box and bring those ideas to the table.

“Innovation is really valued here, and that’s another great way that I’ve been able to grow,” said Dinh. “I have had a lot of opportunities to try out new ideas and innovate, even if they sound a bit outlandish at times. They still give you the chance to put them into practice and see what happens. That in itself is an important level of recognition and validation,” he said.

The organization also invests in ongoing education, offering access to seminars, educational programs, and connections with nonprofit groups that expand philanthropy knowledge.

“They’ve done a lot to help me become a better leader,” Dinh said. “They’ve invested a lot in me, and it makes me feel like they genuinely care about my growth. They invest in my education and encourage me to participate in seminars or other programs to improve my skills and knowledge. You will definitely have a lot of professional development opportunities when you work at an organization like this. You never stop growing or learning working here, which I love,” he explained.

One unique aspect Dinh cherishes is attending high-level events alongside leaders. These experiences provide invaluable learning opportunities typically reserved for senior executives, further preparing him for future growth.

“One of the great things they let me do is they empower me to get involved when it comes to participating in other programs where other leaders will be attending, like galas by other organizations,” Dinh explained. “These are nonprofit events that leaders or managers will usually be attending, and it’s an opportunity to learn, view, and observe. I think that’s one of the greatest things about my time here at the organization – they invest a lot in growth here. I can’t emphasize that enough,” he said.

What Does TrueCare Look for When Hiring New Team Members?

Dinh says that what makes TrueCare special is that they value more than your hard skills – what they look for are soft skills. He shared advice for prospective team members.

“Again, TrueCare values passion a lot,” Dinh stressed. “Passion surpasses numbers and outshines many other qualifications here. They specifically told me that how I talked about philanthropy and community work was what set me apart – I made it clear that there was nothing else I’d rather do, and I meant it,” he added.

At TrueCare, having the heart for the mission and the genuine desire to help the community is the greatest predictor of success. Authenticity matters, too, for those in the process of preparing for an interview.

“Don’t be afraid to show that you’re passionate about helping the community. You want it to be abundantly clear. Still, you also want to be yourself and let your genuine personality shine,” Dinh said. “As long as you have the passion and the heart and show it, you’ll be successful here. It’s what helped me be so successful here,” he said.

If you’re considering joining TrueCare, come knowing that the mission is to serve and uplift the community. That shared purpose is what makes all the difference. Dinh said that this is a common thread when he looks at his coworkers.

“I mean, when it comes to volunteering, people on our team at TrueCare all have the same passion, and everyone volunteers because they want to,” said Dinh. “It feels like whenever I talk to them about it, everyone’s on the same page and so passionate because they know that everything we do through philanthropy is going right back to our communities. Being passionate about this work is what defines success at this organization,” he added.

Why Should You Join TrueCare and Be Part of Its Mission?

Dinh says that being a part of TrueCare is fulfilling in a way that many people don’t get to experience at other organizations, and that the support also makes it a great environment.

“One thing really special about working here is that I feel valued quite often because the team and people I work with are great and always recognize achievements and accomplishments,” Dinh said. “Everyone celebrates one another, and that kind of support creates a really positive, fun work environment – everyone, especially in leadership, makes an effort to share how proud they are of you,” he said.

Ultimately, however, Dinh says you should join TrueCare if you’re truly passionate about our mission of providing excellent health care to people who are too often underserved.

“Seeing the difference you make in people’s lives means so much and makes the job really fulfilling,” Dinh said. “Just being a part of an organization making a tangible impact in the community is what keeps me going and pushing for bigger and grander goals to just grow that impact. If that’s how you’re wired, we’d love to have you join the team,” he smiled.
